01PRussian Mikhail Youzhny maintained his winning streak against Marin Cilic, the Croatian 14th seed, with a hard-fought 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-1 first-round victory at the Rogers Cup, an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 hard-court tennis tournament in Montreal on Monday.

Youzhny, who had previously beaten Cilic at the Chennai Open and Open 13 in Marseille last year, recorded his 23rd win of the 2009 ATP World Tour season (23-21 overall) by virtue of winning 63 per cent of service points, which included four aces, and converting five of seven break point opportunities. The 27 year old, a winner of four ATP World Tour titles, also hit 10 double faults in the pair’s third meeting that lasted two hours and 27 minutes.

Cilic, 20, suffered his second successive opening round exit and his third overall this year (also Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington last week and the AEGON Championships at The Queen’s Club in June).

  1. Another dissapointment in Montreal. Youzhny won the match in a very poor display. What is Marin Cilic doing, at te moment such a poor level. Next week in Ohio Ferrero is waiting. Ferrero will win this match easily with the current level of Marin.
I’m very dissapointed in the level of Marin.

    cheers
