ATP World Tour No. 15 Marin Cilic, the highest seed at the BMW Open by FWU AG, wasted no time in booking his place in the second round of the ATP World Tour 250 tennis tournament with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over German qualifier Dieter Kindlmann on Tuesday in Munich.
The 6’6’’ Croatian won 75 per cent of points on serve and converted four of eight break points, while facing no break points himself, to secure victory in 74 minutes. World No. 210 Kindlmann was bidding for his first tour-level victory of the season after losing in the first round of his other main draw outing as a qualifier at the Australian Open (l. to Canas 7-5 in fifth set).
The 20-year-old Cilic is this week bidding to collect his third ATP World Tour title of the season after already triumphing in Chennai (d. Devvarman) and Zagreb (d. Ancic) in the first two months of the year. However, when the right-hander faces 2007 champion Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second round, he will be hoping to reach his first quarter-final since Dubai (l. to Djokovic) in February. The Zagreb resident, who has won just four matches on clay so far this year, made a quarter-final exit (l. to Mathieu) on his debut in Munich last season.
