Master 1000 – Monte Carlo


This week starts the 2009 clay season ! Marin will begin by playing in Monte Carlo for the ATP 1000 Tournament. Last year, he lost in the first round against the  German Nicolas Kiefer (6/3 6/7 3/6). This year he will play a qualifer in the first round. Here you can see the draw.

Marin will play in the main draw doubles with Nicolas Kiefer. In the first round they will met Almagro/Ferrer.

April,13th : Croatian No. 14 seed Marin Cilic advanced safely to the second round after beating qualifier Flavio Cipolla of Italy 6-3, 6-2. Cilic, the youngest player in the tournament, improved to 19-4 on the season. The 20-year-old hit four aces past Cipolla, who saved 11 of 18 break points, in the pair’s first tour-level meeting that lasted 84 minutes on Court Central. Cilic won 56 per cent of service points and will next meet either Czech Tomas Berdych or another Italian qualifier Fabio Fognini, who play on Tuesday.

April, 14th : Croatia’s Marin Cilic and Nicolas Kiefer  of Germany were the first team to advance to the quarter-finals of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters as they ousted fifth seeds Bruno Soares and Kevin Ullyett 6-4, 1-6, 10-7 on Tuesday in the second round of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tennis tournament. Cilic and Kiefer, who edged past Nicolas Almagro and David Ferrer in the first round, are joining forces for just the second time after reaching the Gstaad quarter-finals in their premier outing in July 2008. The 20-year-old Cilic is making his debut in the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters doubles event, while the 31-year-old Kiefer – a winner of three ATP World Tour doubles titles – had made two first-round exits in 2001 (w/Arazi) and 2002 (w/Gambill). Tomorrow he will play against Fognini who won over Berdych, 1/6 6/3 6/3.

April, 15th : Marin stopped by Italian Fognini in 69 minutes. Marin just won two games in the first set before Fognini won the second 6/0.

April, 17th : Marin and Kiefer lost in quater against Nestor  and Zimonjic, 7/6 4/6 8/10. They won the first set but the world number 2 in the world broke early in the second. In the last set, they saved three balls match but at 9-8, Nestor and Zimonjic won.
